Here's what's been happening around the U.S. with Art of Living Youth Programs

Global Youth Service Day: April 25 – 27, 2008!!

Global Youth Service Day is the largest annual celebration of young volunteers, where millions of young people in countries everywhere highlight and carry out thousands of community improvement projects.

This year Art of Living Foundation YOUTH, in partnership with Youth Serve America, Global Youth Service Day and the Millennium Campaign, is committed to producing a global service project to contribute to the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals.

Inspired by Gurudev's message for the new year, Art of Living Foundation YOUTH have chosen MDG #7 – Ensure environmental sustainability - to be the focus of this year's Global Youth Service Project.

Giving blessings for the New Year, Gurudev said "…in celebration there is 'utsah' –  'enthusiasm' - and with that also arises a 'sankalapa' - 'intention'..."

Gurudev said this New Year let us all take a sankalpa:
1. to conserve water
2. to plant trees and some vegetables and pulses…

"Plant trees - we give out impure air - the trees purify air. So to reduce pollution, it is imperative to plant trees."

Everyone is invited to join the celebration of Global Youth Service Day!

Organic Farming Internship
Dates: May 21-July 15
Contact: andrewbos5@yahoo.com, 413-537-9915

For the second consecutive year, the Art of Living Foundation will be offering youth the opportunity to get their hands dirty and learn the ins and outs of organic agriculture and environmental stewardship. And for the first time we will be including our renowned youth leadership training as part of the program. In places like South Africa, India, Mexico and Louisiana, our leadership programs have inspired and equipped youth to take responsibility for themselves and their communities.  Join us in this innovative, hands-on program offered by the world’s largest volunteer-run organization!

By the end of the program you will be able to start an organic agriculture program in your home community, advocate on behalf of local and global environmental issues, inspire fellow youth to participate in community development, initiate social and environmental justice programs and much, much more.  Specialized workshops held throughout the program on and off the campus will be conducted by farmers, youth activists, environmental advocates and other experts.   These workshops will be complemented with practical farming experience in our one acre garden.  And this summer we will be constructing a new greenhouse, two new gardens, a root cellar and much more.'

Run for Youth - for a Stress-Free, Violence-Free Society

The first annual "Run for a Stress-Free, Violence-Free Society" will take place on Oct. 9th in numerous cities around the country to make the message of non-violence louder than that of violence.

Often violence comes with noise. Non-violence happens in silence. People who are violent make a huge noise; they make it known. People who are non-violent are quiet. But the time has come for people who are nonviolent to make noise so that the violence will quiet down. The message of non-violence has to come loud and clear so that it can be heard from a young age.

Today's youth are bombarded by stress from so many different sources; school, work, peer pressure, parents, the list just goes on.  Often times when youth are under such a great deal of stress and have no way to cope with or release it, it finds an outlet in violence. The goal of the run is to emphasize the necessity of reducing the impact of stress and violence in the lives of American youth and highlighting our shared human values like compassion, joy, a sense of belongingness, service to society, and understanding how precious all life is. The money raised will go to providing youth all over America the techniques and skills they need to manage their emotions and release stress, and supporting them to be really successful in every aspect of their lives.
